Local Tips: My Favorite Spots Near Disney You Won’t Find on Google

  • Posted on

Millions of people visit the Disney area every year — and while the theme parks are magical, some of the real gems are the lesser-known spots just around the corner. As your host and a local who knows the area well, I want to share a few of my personal favorite places near the house that don’t always show up on the top of Google searches.

These hidden gems are where locals go to eat, relax, and enjoy the area without the crowds — and they’re all just a short drive from the house.

🍽️ 1. The Rice Bowl Asian Kitchen – Local & Flavorful

Tucked into a quiet plaza, this casual spot serves up fresh Vietnamese, Thai, and Chinese dishes with real heart. It’s perfect for a takeout night after a long day at the parks — and their pho and crispy egg rolls are a must-try.

📍 Kissimmee, ~8 mins from the house
💡 Try: Shrimp pho or the lemongrass chicken rice plate

🧁 2. Jillycakes Bake Shop – Sweet & Personal

This cozy little bakery feels like someone’s home kitchen — because it basically is. They do custom cupcakes and cakes with rotating flavors, and they’re known for warm service and made-from-scratch quality.

📍 Celebration, ~12 mins away
💡 Tip: Call ahead — they sometimes sell out early on weekends!

☕ 3. Macchiato Coffee House – Hidden Caffeine Heaven

You won’t see this on the tourist maps — but locals love it for its calm atmosphere and really good espresso. They also serve boba tea, pastries, and quiet corner seating if you want to catch your breath from the Disney buzz.

📍 Off West Irlo Bronson Hwy, ~10 mins
💡 Pro tip: Order the iced Vietnamese coffee. You won’t regret it.

🌳 4. Shingle Creek Regional Park – Peaceful Nature Break

Looking for a break from the crowds? Shingle Creek is a quiet place for walking, kayaking, or just sitting under the trees. It’s a relaxing way to enjoy Florida’s nature — and it’s free.

📍 Just 10–15 mins away in Kissimmee
💡 Bring water and bug spray if you go in the evening!

🛍️ 5. 192 Flea Market – Vintage Finds & Local Flavor

This place is the opposite of a polished outlet mall — and that’s why it’s fun. You’ll find random treasures, retro souvenirs, local vendors, and more. It’s an old-school Florida experience that’s totally different from big-box shopping.

📍 East Irlo Bronson Memorial Hwy, ~15 mins
💡 Best time to go: Weekends, early in the day

❤️ Bonus Tip: Where Locals Watch Fireworks (Without the Park Ticket)

Here’s a little secret: head to the Polynesian Resort beach area or the top of the Lime Garage at Disney Springs around fireworks time. You won’t be in the park, but you’ll still catch a great view — for free.

Final Thoughts

There’s so much more to the Disney area than just the parks — and I love helping my guests discover the little places that make their stay even more special. Whether you’re looking for quiet coffee, family food spots, or a peaceful nature walk, these are a few of the places I’d recommend to my own friends.
